As this year’s flu season approaches drug companies have begun manufacturing and shipping vaccines. New this season is the quadrivalent flu vaccine, which protects against 4 strains of the flu – two types of each A and B. Although influenza A caused the majority of illnesses last year, around 70%, influenza B was implicated in about 79% of child deaths from flu last season. The quadrivalent vaccine won’t be available everywhere the flu vaccine is given. Many of the shots given will still be the trivalent flu vaccine, which protects against two types of influenza A and one type of B. It is important for people ages 6 months and up to receive a yearly flu shot, whether that be the quadrivalent or trivalent vaccine.
We have several flu vaccine studies coming up. These include the seasonal flu vaccine as well as H1N1 Swine Flu and H7N9 Avian Flu vaccines. If you or your family are interested in participating in a research study with us then please contact us here.
