Study finds 1 in 4 Contraceptive Pills Fake in Peru

A study on emergency contraceptive pills in Peru discovered that 28 percent of drugs tested were fakes or inadequate versions of the real drug.  The study, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was in response to complaints of  faulty contraceptives in South America.  Some of the pills did not work correctly.  Others had no active ingredients at all.  Another sample contained a common antibiotic that can cause serious adverse reactions in certain people.  This problem may not be unique to Peru, since many of the counterfeit drugs came from across the globe.  You can read more about how to avoid counterfeit drugs below, or continue reading about the study in Peru here
