December 7-13th is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW). The CDC created NIVW in 2005 to emphasize the importance of flu vaccines and that it isn’t too late to get one in December. Flu activity is typically at its worst between December and February but can continue through late spring. It takes about 2 weeks for the flu shot to provide its full protection, so getting the shot before flu activity is at its height is important. Although this year’s flu shot may not contain the strains seen most so far, it can still help protect you against getting sick.
We are still enrolling patients in our pediatric flu vaccine study. Children may qualify if they are under 6 years of age and have had a flu shot in the past. Click here to learn more.
