The avian influenza A (H7N9) virus was first reported in China last April. The virus is sometimes found in birds, and there were no known cases in humans until earlier this year. To date, there have been over 130 confirmed cases reported and 44 deaths from this particular strain of avian influenza virus. Although the virus currently has difficulty spreading from person to person, there is still concern over a possible outbreak as colder weather sets in. Researchers are now developing and testing a vaccine that may protect against this strain of bird flu.
We will be enrolling for an H7N9 Avian Flu Vaccine study at the end of August.
