Vaccines are an important way of protecting your baby from infectious diseases. Getting these vaccines at the recommended ages gives your child the best option for avoiding these diseases (see below for the recommended immunization schedule). The diseases that early childhood vaccines protect against include diphtheria, hepatitis B, polio, tetanus, pertussis, HIB (haemophilus influenza type B), and pneumococcal disease. We have upcoming vaccine research studies that can help protect your child against some of these diseases. The research study for a combination vaccine protects against 6 different diseases and the study for a pneumococcal vaccine protects against pneumococcal disease.
