Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

By October 26, 2015 October 13th, 2016 No Comments

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that caused lung and respiratory tract infections.  RSV is extremely common in young children and it can also infect adults.  Symptoms in adults are mild and very similar to that of the common cold, including a congested or runny nose, dry cough, sore throat, or low-grade fever.  However, RSV can be severe, especially in premature babies and those with underlying health conditions.  Older adults with heart and lung disease or a weak immune system are also susceptible.  Symptoms with severe cases include a fever, severe cough with wheezing, rapid or difficulty breathing, and bluish skin color because of a lack of oxygen.

We have an upcoming RSV vaccine research study for adults age 60+
