November is National Diabetes Month, bringing awareness to a serious disease that affects more than 29 million people nationwide.  Diabetes is a disease in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal.  The disease can cause devastating health problems such as kidney failure, amputation, and nerve damage.  Risk factors for type 2 diabetes include age, family history, race/ethnicity, physical inactivity, and diet.  Since eating healthy is very important for both preventing and treating type 2 diabetes, this year’s theme is America Gets Cooking to Stop Diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association created this initiative to encourage Americans to live a healthier lifestyle by cooking nutritious meals.  Click here to get daily tips on healthy eating and exercise throughout the month, including:

  • Get Moving Mondays
  • Tasty Tip Tuesdays
  • What’s Cooking Wednesdays
  • Get Together Thursdays or Any Day!
  • Fact Check Friday
