This fall allergy season may be one of the worst in recent years. Many people may confuse allergies for a cold. If your symptoms are prolonged and consistent each fall then allergies may be the culprit. Major fall allergens includes ragweed, mold, and dust mites. Around one quarter of all Americans are sensitive to Ragweed, which can produce up to 1 billion spores a year. You can reduce your exposure by limiting time spent outdoors when counts are high, wash your hands often, shower before bed, and keep windows closed. Another trigger is mold, often found inside and outdoors in fallen leaves, soil, and rotting logs. You can wear a mask while working in the yard to reduce your exposure to mold. Another cause of fall allergies are dust mites. These tiny bugs live in house dust, even in the cleanest of homes. To help reduce dust mite allergy symptoms you can use allergen-blocking bedding, wash bedding weekly in hot water, vacuum regularly, and keep low humidity levels in your home.
