Chief scientific officer George Yancopoulos of Regeneron believes that making drug discovery easier is key to inventing new medicines. New technology could aid in the understanding of investigational medicines and increase the odds of its success. Drugs that look promising in the lab often fail during human clinical trials. Yancopoulos hopes to create new ways to tell whether or not a drug will be safe and effective in humans in the early stages of drug development.
New drugs are often tested in mice. Although there are many similarities between mice and human genes, there are still many differences. To compensate for these genetic disparities, Yancopoulos created a method of putting millions of letters of human DNA into a mouse genome.
This discovery is one of many that Regeneron is using to order to create new medicines. Read more about Regeneron’s story at Forbes.com
