New Autism Registry Hopes to Boost Research Participation

A new registry has been created within ResearchMatch.org for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  ResearchMatch is a national database that connects patients with all types of diseases and conditions to research opportunities.  These include not only clinical trials, but also less in depth studies and even online health information surveys.

Only 5% of the estimated 1.5 million children with an autism spectrum disorder in the U.S. participate in clinical research studies.  Pediatric cancer studies have close to 90% enrollment rates, which has greatly advanced treatment and outcomes for childhood cancers in the last decade.  An increase in autism research participation could lead to similar advances for children with autism spectrum disorders.
